What Russian Commies Knew About Exercising a Baby

Dear Friend,

Even though I share the same birthday with Karl Marx - I'm no fan of communism. In fact, I despite it.

At the same time, whether we're talking about Russia or China, there's still a wealth of great information that the rest of us can learn from.

My friend Lar Short just sent me an example of something that proves my point. Read on and see once again that "life is movement."
Matt,
Coinciding with today's email, having a baby do assisted range of motion asap, is excellent for their brain development and so is assisted swimming in the bath tub.

The Russians back in the late 60's, when they were still commie dogs ;), used range of motion and cross-crawl exercises with premature births when they had no other methods around, no high tech premie stuff like we have here in the USA today.

I saw the films and boy did those babies look tiny! The nurse looked like a giant about to pull them apart. The nurses would also sing to the babies. The babies made cooing noises and smiled.

The result of this "primitive grappling of the infants" as a medical friend of mine quipped, was that they increased the survival rate 8x, better than anything we were doing with our machines here in the free world.

I remember how shocked my medical collegues were and how most of them chose disbelief instead of running the experiment in conjunction with what they were already doing. Oh by the way the babies smiles were discounted as "gas".

Other medical people present and the parents present "quietly, and undercover" started implementing the cross-crawls, range-of-motion, massage, and water play with their infants. The increased well being, health, and all around happiness of the infants plus their doing better or at the high end of the developmental profile was credited by some to be genetics. The infants obviously had smarter and healthier parents.

I suggested that the infants did have smarter and healthier parents - ones that could learn and put something useful into practice even if it came from some commie source.

Needless to say that was not diplomatic and I also knew they weren't going to do anything with evidence that went in the face of what they already knew. A few years later, I included these methods along with the infant education program we were developing in Venezuela.

Among the poorest people, including some primitive natives, we got the same increase in health, happiness, and intelligence.

EXERCISE THOSE BABIES!!!!

Last of all: This is a THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU AGAIN FOR BEING IN MY LIFE. And specifically, in my case, for getting me back to the exercises that I knew worked when I was a kid. It is great getting to become a kid again (at 55).

with Gratitude,
Lar Short

M.F.: Lar, thanks so much for contributing this. I love it and am now committed to exercising my baby daughter "right away." She may end up being a challenge for Frank, hehe.

That's all for now.

Best,

P.S.: Don't forget to drop by my homepage to see the updates. Very cool. Go here and take a gander.
