Earlier today I was talking to one of my older brothers
(I have four). He’s a successful businessman – so exchanging
ideas with him can be very productive.
Anyway, he asked me how I was doing after my seminar last
week. I replied, “I’m working on getting caught up.”
“Forget that,” he said. “Focus on what’s important instead.”
I stopped long enough to let my jaw drop.
“Now THAT is a keeper,” I said. “Afterall, the objective is NOT
to get caught up. When you’re in business the idea is to have
so much coming in that you cannot catch up. So you’re right.
Focus on what is most important and the rest will take care of
I realize the above sounds odd to many people. We’re taught to
finish everything each day. And when you have nothing to do each
day, this applies. On the other hand, when your business is doing
well, it’s impossible. You’re FAR better off focusing on what is
most important, then next most important – and so on.
Keep this in mind the next time you are trying to “get caught up.”
