More on Doubling Your Stretching Power
Dear Friend,
Yesterday afternoon, shortly after sending out the tip,
Can You 'Really' Double Your Flexibility Overnight?'
I took my son Frank, who will turn 5 in June, out to eat.
Just so happened to choose Bennigans - ya know, that sort
of Irish place with the pretend-Irish feel to it. Not kidding
either. They have signs on the walls of "professional" Irish
sports teams that don't exist in Ireland. Guess tis just the
thought that counts.
Anyway, so that I could eat while getting the latest scoop on
the Major League Baseball steroid scandal - I choose a booth
in the bar. Frank had his colors. I had Sports Channel.
Frank finished his meal before I did - and being his coloring
job was complete, he commenced to working out. At first I
thought he was simply "goofing." But no!!!
He started by lying sideways in the booth, in a sort of sideway
plank position, balancing himself on one arm. Then he tried to
do one-arm pushups - from that position. I was more than mildly
entertained, but pretended to see nothing.
Next thing you know, Frank is standing in front of the booth
doing Hindu squats. He's doing them perfectly, too. Breathing
out on the descent; inhaling when he stands back up. Everyone
in the bar is watching the kid - and hey, I'm not going to ruin
a good thing and tell him to sit back down.
After the Hindu squats he starts in on some vertical pushups -
and so on.
Was a grand show. And when it ended I applauded the lad.
Now here's the interesting point to all of this: Frank, like almost
all kids, is full of energy. He may not be a strong man yet, but
there is no argument in regard to stamina.
And do you know one of the central reasons why youngins have
so much energy? It's because their bodies are limber, loose and
flexible.
It's been said that, as we age, flexibility is the first thing we lose.
Tis a crying shame, if you ask me - mostly because there is no
reason why you should lose flexibility. No matter your age, you
can still be limber - and if you're still limber - you're still youthful.
Without question there are those who have already lost their
youthful flexibility. Or so it seems. Truth is that you never lose
flexibility - you simply misplace it.
You can gain it back whenever you want. All you've got to do
is be open to the adventure.
Folding your arms across your chest won't get the job done.
Greater flexibility goes to the men and women who spread
their wings and soar. It doesn't take long to double your so-called
"lost" flexibility, either. Only takes a night. And for some, it takes
about a half hour.
