This is not an ordinary email. It contains subject matter

No Alzheimers. No dementia. No wandering around

which are the keys to great health.
Anyone who thinks his muscles are where his strength
comes from has never had a kidney stone, stomach

affect your jing, qi and shen - aka your physical body,
energy body and spirit body.
With a specific hand seal or finger movement, I have
watched a friend in China turn a roomful of people
around. Without being conscious of what happened,
these people turned around, took a seat and began
patiently waiting for him to talk.
I have watched a kung fu master slice through bricks
with the insides of his fingers. He did this, by the way,
after preparing himself with a variety of hand seals or
finger gestures that increased the flow of chi in his
body. I have watched old men do amazing things with
"mind power" - and much of it they attribute to how
they train their fingers.

When I reflect upon my childhood, my fondest memories of my father are: The day he came to my 5th-grade class and talked about his career as a lawyer; the day I sat in court and watched him defend his client; the days I sat in his office and watched him dictate memos to his secretary; the days when he sat in the stands and watched me compete in sports; the moments he counseled me after a heart breaking loss and told me I had a knack for turning a disadvantage into an advantage; the day he tried to explain the birds and bees to me; the days he taught me how to read out loud so I could be a lector at church services.
I treasure all these moments in time - but there is one memory of my father that stands out above all others. Twas when he and I played catch with a baseball in my front yard. My father wasn't a great athlete. He weighed 119 pounds when he graduated high school. He was also a lefty (and so are both of my kids). He spent the majority of his daytime hours reading and studying - and still does. So it was a BIG deal for him to stop reading and play catch with me. Even for a few minutes. Isn't it funny how that memory stands above all the others? It shows how delicate and precious each moment in time really is. It also shows how an exchange of energy - expressed through the tossing of a baseball - makes everything else in life seem trivial.
I love you Dad - and I'm thankful for the memories.

Last weekend Coach Dan Gable spoke about
giving it all you have in your workout -then
placing your attention on recovery from the
workout.
"Work just as hard on recovery as you do in
the workout," he said.
This is sage advice. Thing is most people have
no idea how to recover after training. Nor do
they recognize the grand importance of it.
Thankfully, I'm not one of those who thinks
recovery is unimportant. And I credit this as
helping me avoid most of the major surgeries
that many competitive athletes and martial
artists have undergone.
So many people get banged up and refuse to
recover properly. Or they train the wrong way -
doing exercises that are questionable at best.
They may get stronger - but at a huge expense.
Shoulders are ruined from heavy bench pressing.
Knees are shot from training on machines instead
of free hand. Backs are ruined from dead lifts done
wrong.
Then there are the people who work all day and never
take time to train. These people never rid their body
of the negative stress associated with their job. And
it leads to physical and mental decline.
Very quickly, here are 5 ways to rejuvenate your body
that I will cover in far more detail for members of the
Matt Furey Inner Circle.
1. Proper Exercise - That's right. This may seem like a
mind-bender - but exercise in and of itself - if done with
a deep connection to your breathing and with con-
centration on your muscles - will help rejuvenate you. There
is a fine line, however. Anytime you force yourself to do
more than ever before - then the exercise is a rejuvenator -
but you'll need extra time to recover from it without
exercising.
2. Deep Breathing - You might think you did enough deep
breathing during your exercise period - but recovery will
be faster and more dramatic if you continue to focus on
how you breathe after you train. Even right now - how
conscious are you of your breathing. Is it shallow or deep
and full.
3. Food Selection - If you choose foods that are loaded with
starch, high fructose corn syrup, msg, corn starch and so on -
this will make it much harder for you to recover from hard
training. Think in colors like orange, yellow, red, purple, green
and so on when you eat. White is usually the devil's choice.
If you want to get fat (or fatter) - eat white.
4. Sauna - One of the most rejuvenating activities is taking
a sauna - causing more toxins to be released through
sweating. A sauna also warms your muscles, increases
blood flow and gives your internal organs a well needed
jolt.
5. Sports Massage - It's no accident that the Great Gama
of India was in an exercise system that included DAILY

that many countries in the world make sure their athletes
get a good sports massage on a regular basis. I have gone
from feeling I was on my last legs - to fully rejuvenated

Last weekend I held the Get Tough Fitness
Challenge right here in Tampa - and let me
tell you - it was yet another personal best on
all fronts.
First, the students in attendance were the very
best ever. Many people were attending for the
third, fourth and fifth time - and you could see

Second, the speakers were simply fantastic. Dan
Gable, Sakai Yusai, Master Ueno, Ed Baran, Fred
Nicklaus, Pete Lillo and Vince Palko - all held the

showed they walk their talk.
Third, the contests for Best Hindu Squats, Best
Hindu Pushups and the 2008 Combat Conditioning
Athlete of the Year were superb.
For three straight years Logan Christopher has trained
with the goal of winning the title in mind. In both 2006
and 2007 he fell short of his goal - but the third time can
be a charm - and it most certainly was this year for Logan.
He blitzed his way into the finals where he faced Perry
Berthelot. The two men fought valiantly for the coveted
crown - but in the end it was "the bridge" that separated
the champion from the runner-up. The patience and persistence
embodied by Logan Christopher reigned supreme.
