One-Minute At-A-Time Fitness
Dear Friend,
We've been slammed with the "you need at least 30 minutes
of exercise per day" advice for so long that the person who
wants to get started feels as if he can't.
Here's the unmitigated truth: The person who has parked his
rumpus on the coach (or before the computer) for 20 years
ain't ready for 30 minutes of exercise per day. And anyone
who tells you that you "should" do 30 minutes is an idiot.
In Combat Conditioning
I recommend 15 minutes per day, but only with the vast assortment of
possible exercises in the book.
Yet, truth be told once again, most people cannot even do 15 minutes of
vigorous exercise when they start. So in my emails I regularly recommend
getting started with as little as ONE minute of exercise.
If you do the Farmer Burns Stomach Flattener as written about in Combat
Abs you will note that one
repetition
takes 2-5 seconds. If you do 10 reps, that'll be 1-2 minutes - and
believe me,
you'll be reaping immediate rewards from that alone.
Many of the Furey-Faithful began with ONE Hindu pushup and a couple of
Hindu
squats. That was all they could do at first. And guess what? From that
"little" bit
their body showed improved. They got stronger. They got more flexible.
And their
endurance improved.
As the Chinese proverb says, "The journey of a thousand miles begins
with a single
step."
Translated into fitness terms, "The journey toward extraordinary
fitness begins with a
single pushup." Or squat. Or deep breath.
"Beginning is half-done."
Whether you have the desire to get started NOW - or whether you're
already
on the path - the behavior is the same.
Each and every day, you must make a decistion to take your first step
forward.
Kick butt - take names!
