Your Muscles Remember
Dear Friend,
I'm off to Shanghai in a few hours and thought I'd
write you a brief note before the plane leaves.
Yesterday afternoon I had lunch with a good friend,
Mr. Teng, who was a Shuaijiao kung fu champion during
his youth. I hadn't seen him since last summer, during
which time he was quite a bit heavier than he is now.
I congratulated him on having lost weight - which typically
speaking, is the opposite of the way things are done over
here. Most of the time, people congratulate you for having
GAINED weight and are worried about you if you've lost
any. That is changing a bit, now, though, due to the
proliferation of American restaurants like McDonalds,
KFC, etc. - as well as ever-increasing amount of western
junk food.
Anyway, whilst Mr. Teng took delight in my compliment,
he told Master Zhang Di Yi how the muscles in his arms
have come back inside of one month of beginning his
daily exercise program. He was very surprised, especially
Mr. Teng is now in his mid-50's.
I explained to him that this is normal because your muscles
have a memory. Those who were previously very fit have
a great 'muscle memory' and their body responds incredibly
fast to exercise. Perhaps not as fast as in one's youth, but
still pretty doggone fast.
We exchanged exercises over lunch, getting up from time to
time to demonstrate (yes, right in el restarante). I taught him
the Farmer Burns Stomach Flattener - as shown in my int'l
best-seller, Combat Abs - http://www.mattfurey.com/combat_abs.html -
and explained how the deep breathing combined with the flexing and
holding of the abdominals, burns fat off your body and purifies your
internal organs.
He nodded and showed me a variation he has been using of nearly
the same exercise, and said that this alone has helped him take six
inches off his waistline in the past month.
As for his legs, he showed me a squatting technique he used years
ago, and this technique was similar to Hindu squats - just not as
good. Then when I showed him the Hindu pushups from Combat
Conditioning - he mirrored them exactly. These he learned decades
ago and has been using for the last month as well - and, then he
flexed his arms and said, 'This is how my arms are getting so
strong so fast.'
I told him that upon my next voyage here to the island, I will bring
him a copy of my all-time best-seller, Combat Conditioning, so he
and I can compare even more notes. He liked that idea.
Yes, Combat Conditioning
changes lives. The exercises go back thousands of years. And the reason
why they've survived is because they flat our work - and work quickly, too.
Make sure you're doing some everyday.
Well, my friend, tis all for now.
Kick butt - take names,
