Yes, it feels great when you start out only being able to do a few pushups and squats, and now you’re knocking out 40, 50 or 100 in a row, with ease.
But when you hit a plateau, you may begin to think that all your training isn’t bearing fruit.
When you hit a plateau in your training, one of the common mistakes people make is it to double or triple their efforts. Sometimes this works, but oftentimes, it doesn’t.
There is a time to intensify your efforts, but when you hit a sticking point, instead of fighting it, another viable option is learning to enjoy the ride.
The masters recognize that hitting a plateau is natural. It doesn’t mean something is wrong or that you need to take immediate corrective intensified action. Instead, you see that this moment will pass. You continue training, regardless of how many repetitions you can currently do. Doing this allows your mind the freedom to move beyond the plateau when you are ready to do so.
One of the reasons I advocate a variety of intensity levels in your training is because the easier days make way for improvements to take place.
I used to push, push, push in my training – yet after implementing different levels of intensity, I marveled at how I got better.
True, many people are too lax in their training, and they can benefit enormously by doing more. But if you are one of those people who tends toward overdoing it, if you’re one of those who hates hitting plateaus, then today’s message was written for YOU.
The greatest of athletes of all time hit plateaus in their training. So will you. Learn to enjoy them and ride them out. Appreciate what you can currently do, even if you want more.

P.S. We’re moving closer and closer to the day when every single printed copy of my all-time best-seller, Combat Conditioning, is GONE. When that happens, you’ll only be able to receive the book digitally. Yet, there’s good news for those who order the printed book NOW (and perhaps the DVDs as well). We will also include a copy of Kick Ass Take Names and an autographed copy of a martial arts magazine that I graced the cover, and we are doing this at no additional charge, while supplies last. Jump on this NOW, my friend. Get these collector’s items in your library and take your training to the next level.
