For the past three-plus months, I’ve abstained from food for 24 hours, followed by a feast where I eat whatever I want.
Previously, whenever I have practiced daily fasting, the habit didn’t stick long-term because after a short period, I rushed into longer fasts to get quicker results.
And yes, the longer fasts did yield faster results, but inevitably, I went back to what I was doing before, which was eating more than one meal per day.
This time around has been different. I removed the goal of getting results faster and focused only on the process of doing a one-day fast – every day.
I don’t weigh myself to ascertain if progress is being made because as soon as I do so, I want even faster results, which leads to me doing longer fasts to see even more progress.
Two of the questions I asked myself last April, before I began this journey were:
1. “What if I took my focus off the results I sought and focused only on the process?
2. And what would happen if the daily process of fasting was the only goal I focused on?”
As a result of taking my focus off the externals, such as the scale, I have grounded myself in the foundation and the fundamentals of fasting. It is now a part of my daily life, a habit that I want to and choose to keep because the results are truly shocking.
Yesterday toward the completion of my 24-hour fast, I decided it was time to do one that lasted 48-hours. After I completed those 48 hours, I feasted, per usual – then immediately got back to my daily practice of one meal a day.
Although I am currently contemplating making the 48-hour fast something I do once a week, the entire process of success in this practice is built upon one feast a day.
This is a slower approach to fasting than others teach, but my senses tell me it is one that is sustainable and maintainable – long term.
And that’s the point.
Almost anyone can fast for a day; and many can ramp it up and do much longer fasts.
But when the short or long fast is over, was a new habit installed?
That is the question I now have an answer for.

P.S. You might wonder, “How are your workouts going when you’re fasting?” The answer: Better than ever. You will improve your fitness dramatically, especially when it comes to endurance, flexibility and mobility. Moreover, you will gain strength as greater levels of growth hormone and testosterone kick in.
