Recently I watched a guy mow down a hectare (2.5 acres) of tall grass in an hour, on foot and by hand – using an old-school scythe.
This inspired me to say nuthin more. &&&
But as I was plowing the grass on foot last night, I realized something. >>>
And that is… I need to reverse getting older with an older-school way of training. I need to go way, way, waaaaaay back. <<< Instead of mowing the lawn with a Scott's blade mower and a weed whacking mower, I need to get me-self one of them thar scythes, snaths or sickles. Today I was up early driving around town, doing my best to find me an old scythe. I may have located one from a neighbor, Fred, who is 75 and a former rassler, too. He says his brother may have one I can borrow. I ain't borrowing nuthin. If his brother puts one in my hands, good luck gettin it back. If it takes a fist of cash - then that is what it takes. Mowing the lawn with a push mower is a fantastic workout, even though you aren't really "working out." But using a scythe - that'll change the drama-dramatically. I already have two blades ordered. It'll be a week before I get my milk grips on them. And then the grass games shall commence. Using a scythe will give me abs of liquid steel without a single sit-up or crunch. Yes, the key is liquid steel - not hardened steel. As you're aware, in sports and martial arts you gotta be able to move - fluidly and quickly with control and balance. Anyone can lift himself stiff. But to move with power and precision in any direction - that's the ideal. Besides me having abs of liquid steel, guess what else this manual labor "grass is leaner" workout will give me? Stronger feet and hands. Stronger spinal erectors. Stronger arms and shoulders. Stronger legs, glutes and hips. >Can you imagine how mighty my forearms are going to be from this “exercise?”
Popeye will be jell-ass compared to me.
Now, you might wonder what else I need to do after plowing a field by hand the old-school way?
The answer is not much. But I’ll be sure to loosen up anyway be picking and choosing from my best-selling programs shown below.
I’ll keep you apprised of how it goes.
In the meantime, if you don’t have access to five acres to mow by hand, do the next best thing and activate your body in some functionally fit way every day.
And doing so jest may have you altering my sign-off saying to…
Flick grass – take names! ###
