Years ago, I sat on the floor with my legs spread wide, telling stories before I began teaching a grappling class.
Several others sat around me, attempting to duplicate the same posture. Not only were they unable to spread their legs as wide as mine, but even worse, they had trouble sitting upright. Some of them, the ones who could pump the most iron, and were injury-prone, had to put their hands behind their butts in an attempt to keep their torso in a vertical position.
“How the hell do you sit that way?” asked one student.
“Genetics,” replied another.
“I guess you’re forgetting what I’ve previously told you about training,” I mentioned. “It’s not genetics. It’s practice. I used to be as stiff as you were and now I’m not.”
Again, this was many, many years ago. More than twenty.
Yet today, I can still do what I was unintentionally demonstrating back then, and a whole lot more.
Once again, the reason is… PRACTICE.
I practice more than I preach.
I get up in the morning and do what animals do. I sit and stand in powerful postures – and I move once I’m in these postures.
As a result, I am still growing INTERNALLY. I am increasing my abilities and skills. And I’m almost 60.
The above is one of many reasons I recently released my new course, Power Postures-Tiger Tendons.
I want to see you increase your mobility and strength AS you age.
I want to see you living pain-free.
I want to see you feeling a spring in your step and a sense of flow in all your movements.
This new training protocol will give it to you – and it will do so at your own pace.
Start with a little each day, experience the energy and watch how you begin to want more and more of this type of training.
Best,
Matt Furey
P.S. If you have trouble sitting in the posture I described, no worries. Get started with the course and you’ll marvel at the changes that take place in you.
