Today I have an exercise for you that shows you how to use your mind to control your body.
You begin with a bamboo pole, or a stick that is about six-feet long.
You hold the pole in front of your upper thighs (from a standing position) with your hands wider than shoulder-width.
From there you inhale and with straight arms, you raise the pole in an arc above your head. You then exhale and lower the pole.
After doing this a few times, you keep your ribs flat as you bring the pole behind your head and neck. You may need to adjust your grip a bit at this point.
You repeat this a few times and then, with each subsequent repetition you bring the pole back further, doing so until it is behind your lower back.
As you do this exercise you make sure that you keep your ribs flat. You refrain from arching your ribcage or your back.
There are many benefits to this exercise, including shoulder mobility, expansion of the lungs, and so on. But one of the unsung benefits is how you use your mind to control your body, not just in this exercise, but in all movement.
