Q: Matt, what is your opinion on fasting? I think I saw somewhere in the past where you were for it.
A: Funny you asked. Just as I advocate sprints as part of your exercise routine, I also teach moving slowly, even super slow. Both are good for the body, but sprints do carry a greater danger for those who are lifelong friends with SoFa.
You may think I’ve side-stepped your question, but this same idea applies when it comes to eating, or the lack thereof. When you are fasting, your metabolism cranks and you burn fat incredibly fast while maintaining muscle mass. Fasting resets hormonal levels and helps turn insulin resistance around.
Nevertheless, there are people who aren’t ready for fasting just yet, so what can they do? They can start with slowing instead.
In a fast you don’t eat. A slow is different. You eat, but you take more time that normal. You chew every morsel of food for as long as you can stomach.
Some people advise chewing your food 45 times before you let it go down the shoot. I don’t prescribe a specific number. Just keep repeating the one-word mantra, “Slooooowly,” as you eat – and you’ll be fortified.
With all of this in mind, you can see how el Furecat is able to see through both ends of the spectrometer. Take it fast or take it slow. There’s a rhythm to this method. Both ways work. In fact, a fast and a slow can be combined.
When you run a sprint, you follow it with a slow. Then you run another sprint, followed by another slow.
Same when it comes to eating or the lack thereof. You fast for 24 hours, then you do a 90-minute slow. This is followed by another 24 hours fast, and yet another slow.
Fitness is sounder and easier when you approach it these ways.
