More than 20 years ago, I got wind of one of the biggest rages in the strength training whirld.
Personal trainers would have a bucket in their facilities, and they truly believed in working their clients so hard that the client would puke into it. If the client didn’t puke toward the end of the session, then he wasn’t pushing himself hard enough.
These trainers believed that if you didn’t push yourself that hard, you weren’t going to get as strong as you could be.
What a crock of crap.
It’s a variation of the train to failure theme that is still prevalent today.
Back in 2001, I remember having a phone conversation with the late Vic Boff, one of the great physical cultures writers, who brought up this “push to puke” mentality. He said that when you toss your cookies in a workout, that is the human body’s response just before you die.
“So these guys are pushing themselves to the point that they are just one stage short of dying,” he mentioned. “How is that a good thing?”
“It’s not,” I said.
Meanwhile, as the puke bucket personal trainers were espousing some of the worst advice in the industry, doing a set to failure, followed by another set to failure, and another, and another, their clients ultimately failed.
They got stronger for awhile, then their bodies couldn’t take it anymore. They either quit due to burnout (a fried nervous system), or they got injured. Either way, the fitness routine was abandoned.
Earlier today, I watched a video of two women raving about how they worked out so hard that “we almost died.”
How stupid is that?
It’s incredibly stupid.
The body remembers this stupidity, and even if you get results initially, ultimately, there is a heavy price to pay for this insanity, and much of it will go to the orthopedic surgeons.
The way so many people train today is a wet dream for the surgeons.
Meanwhile, there’s a workout-smarter-not-harder approach to health and fitness that doesn’t fry your nervous system and doesn’t cripple you with knee, hip, back and shoulder pain.
It’s an approach that creates more space in your joints, allowing them to heal. It’s an approach that leads to internal strength and power. It’s an approach that increases flexibility and mobility.
It’s called Power Postures-Tiger Tendons. It is what I do on a daily basis to defy the aging process, to age as slowly as humanly possible.
This means that, as far as most people are concerned, you will appear to be aging in reverse.
You’ll be getting stronger and more energetic by the day, from the inside out, while the train-to-failure types are losing steam and momentum.
Come along with me and you will see.
Get Power Postures-Tiger Tendons NOW and you’ll be…
Kicking Ass and Taking Names!
