Almost 30 years ago, a kung fu master ‘splained to me that the flexibility of your joints is more important than how far you can stretch your muscles.
If you doubt me on this, all you need to do is take a look at the number of joint replacement surgeries taking place and compare them to the number of muscle pulls that require surgery.
Chances are excellent you have friends or family who’ve had at least one joint replaced.
Aside from someone’s joints being replaced, can you picture anyone who has joint pain? It’s usually not hard to remember someone because MOST people today have pain in one or more of their joints.
The solution we are usually given for joint pain is a supplement of some kind. Although some supplements may help alleviate pain, there is nothing better than learning to increase the flexibility of your joints.
When you “grease up them joints”with the proper kind of exercise, you increase the flow of blood and synovial fluid in those areas, which helps reduce pain by moving vital energy or qi through the body unobstructed.
Moving the joints, in and of themselves, is a way to alter your mind and your mood. If you wake up in the morning in a foul mood, take a few minutes to follow the joint loosening exercises I lay out for you in Combat Stretching. Without even thinking about it, you start feeling better. Your disposition and attitude improve. You feel good for no reason whatsoever, other than the fact that you recognize the physical benefits of keeping your body loose and limber.
Going through your day with tight, stiff or painful joints is no fun. It can make you feel downright grumpy. After a few minutes of joint loosening, though, you just might be amazed at how different life is for you NOW.
Best,
Matt Furey
