Last night I worked with a gentleman who used to follow the “no gains without pain” approach to fitness. That is, until he met me, and discovered a calmer and easier – yet faster result-producing method.
When we finished, he was amazed at how much he accomplished without strain. To his surprise, he ended up doing MORE than when he trained to failure and/or fatigue. Most importantly, he was excited about the next workout. He didn’t leave feeling exhausted and spent.
Many years ago, I would have driven this young man into the ground. I would have worked him until he had nothing left. And then I would wonder why he wasn’t motivated to come around ‘no more.’
You may not have thought of this before, but a good many people work out in a way that stresses their brain and central nervous system to the limit – and they think it’s a good thing.
They push, push, push… go, go, go and burn themselves out, training to failure and fatigue. Without even realizing it, they are cooking and frying their internal organs with this training method.
Side-effects of this type of training are less patience, less calmness and a much more panicked state of mind. And these unwanted, agitated mental states lead to poor results in other areas of your life.
If you ever find yourself feeling easily perturbed and upset, or panicked about life in general, then it’s a good idea to make sure you exercise in a way that calms your mind. The key to superior results is exercising in a way that increases the feeling of patience within; patience for yourself and others.
Here’s a note from a man who discovered the miracle of patience by following my advice:
I have been a “give it 120%,” train til failure kind of guy for about 10 years. So when I heard Matt talk about Dao Zou for the first time, I thought…”How is something that requires so little of me gonna make that big of a difference.” Then I decided that if it’s good enough for Matt Furey, it’s good enough for me to take a stab at it.
All I can say is WOW! I have only followed this program for three days, and I already have a ton more patience with my employees and 7 kids throughout the day…not to mention the positive effect it’s had on my ability to visualize with my eyes open.
If you’re on the fence…I highly recommend you get the hell off it and start Dao Zou immediately. You’ll be glad you did.
