There are three secrets to growing older, and now you can learn what they are if your goal is to get old faster than you ever thought possible.
And no, one of these secrets is not sitting on your booty all day long.
In fact, it’s not as much about what you do that ages you. It’s more about what you stop doing or refuse to do.
Let me tell it to you straight: If you want to get old really, really fast, then there are three things you do NOT want to do:
1. Stop learning new things, especially new ways to move your body. When you stick with the same ole-same ole routine and never change it up, you get to enjoy old age far sooner than you ever could have planned on. Old age can strike in your 20’s or 30’s, if you’ll let it happen by avoiding learning anything new.
2. Stop jumping. Over 35 years ago, I read a number of books written by health and fitness pioneer, Paul Bragg, who could still brag in his mid 90’s about how fit he was. In one of Bragg’s books (sorry I don’t recall the title as it’s back in my Florida library), he wrote that when you stop jumping, your body ages really fast. Why? Because jumping, or even using a rebounder, moves the blood and the lymph, and works the muscles, tendons and fascia, keeping them strong, youthful and healthy. So you don’t want jump or use a rebounder if getting older is your objective. If you want to lose that youthful glow, if you want to grow old disgracefully, then take from me, stop jumping.
3. Stop doing anything that challenges your balance. For example, never stand on one leg. Never walk in reverse. Never imitate how animals walk. And by all means, do not walk up hills or trek in the mountains, where the air is fresher and you can inhale some healthy negative ions. As soon as possible, just let nature take its discourse, allowing your legs go weak. The upside of this is you can get yourself a cane and learn to do the old man shuffle in your 40’s or 50’s.
There you have it. The three secret hallmarks of aging faster.
Personally, I don’t live or abide by these secrets. Yes, I avoid them.
At the same time, I realize that many, many people engage in these inactivities each day and I cannot argue with the amazing results they are getting.
On the other foot, if by chance you want to put on an age-reversing show, I must stand and applaud.
Be forewarned though: If this is your goal and you pursue it, you may make a lot of people, even those far younger than you, jealous as hell. They will most certainly talk behind your back, calling you a fitness nut and criticizing you for having the guts to do what they won’t.
I learned long ago to take this sort of thing in stride.
Truthfully, I love making people jealous. It puts a Cheshire cat grin on my face. If you have this same mentality, that is truly awesome.
Well, this completes this evening’s public service denouncement.
Have yourself a grand ole (or should I say young) weekend.
Live it UP!
