Many eons ago, when I was struggling to understand the mysteries of the universe, I overheard the following story:
A basketball player, a weight lifter and a martial arts master stepped into the sauna.
The basketball player sprinkled some eucalyptus oil on the stones and said, “This oil is good for the lungs. It helps calm the mind so you can relax.”
The weight lifter took a whiff and said, “I need to get some of that for my wife. She can’t slow down. I keep telling her that you can’t just work, you need to relax, too.”
The martial arts master piped in, “The greatest benefits come when you’re relaxed, not trying, not even thinking. When you figure out how to relax as you work – you’re not ‘working’ yet everything gets done. You slow down to speed up. You relax so you can explode.”
“That’s so true,” the basketball player said. “Whenever I can’t think of a name and I stop trying to remember it, the name always comes to me.”
The weight lifter added, “Whenever I’m under the bar, the harder I try the worse the results.”
The martial artist then said, “As I learned from my teachers, ‘The harder you try the sooner you die. The slower you go, the faster you know.'”
