Yesterday I fired up the lawnmower.
And what began as a simple goal to mow a 40- square foot area morphed into The Green Mile – a walk that would never end, until darkness reared her head.
I thought my lawn mowing days were over when I left my parent’s home for college.
And they were until this summer.
Then one day when I was whittling a stick on the back patio, wondering what I was going to do next in life, I got the eye-dea to buy myself a lawn mower and commence cutting the grass.
Not being one to sit on a riding lawn mower, I opted for one with weed whackers. And man, they sure do one helluva job.
So in between writing and whittling and whatever else, Uncle Matt put his hiking boots on, donned a straw cowboy hat and some protective eye gear, and commenced a trekkin’.
Yesterday’s walk lasted pert-near three hours, and when I was back inside my abode, I realized, “Hey, you didn’t do your Warrior Walkin’ yet.”
“Don’t need to,” I says.
“Um, yes you does,” the militant man within replies.
Well now, who’s going to win this battle?
I assumed the position, figuring I would go through the motions to please Sgt. Sidekick, but after taking the first few slow, balanced cat-like steps, just as I had done with the lawn, I forgot that I was only going to do this for a few minutes.
Next thing I knew I was teleported into another realm. I forgot about the excuse I had and when I finished, I plopped myself on the floor and did some Combat Stretching.
“Ya know,” I says to Sgt. Sidekick, “if I wasn’t doing these Warrior Walking patterns, I wouldn’t have been able to mow for three hours in 93 degree weather.”
Sgt. Sidekick replied, “And that’s the truth. Ten minutes a day gave you three hours of mowing and you could’ve kept going if you had more daylight.”
I smirked, “That’s what can happen when you just get started.”
Warrior Walking, mmmm hmmm. It turns the idea of walking 10,000 steps per day into a big time laugher.
You can get some by going here.
