Some people view the photos and video footage of me in Combat Conditioning, doing a wrestler’s and a gymnastic bridge, and immediately proclaim and exclaim, “Oh, IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII could never do that.”
In most cases, the person is totally wrong.
But the “I could never” statement and the mental imagery that accompanies it, actually keeps the person from ever doing it.
“As you thinketh in your heart/mind and feel in your gut, so you becometh,” says el Furecat.
But what if you cannot bridge at this time, but you want to… and there’s no medical reason why you can’t or shouldn’t?
Where do you begin? Where do you start?
You can begin by lying across a big, soft ballistic ball.
And as you stretch across it, you allow your spinal erectors to sink into it as you stretch your vertebrae.
This, my friend, is something you can do indefinitely and benefit from enormously. No need to ever do a wrestler’s or gymnastic bridge.
Truth be told, every single day, I bridge this way.
I bridge across a Bosu Ballast ball. I do so in the morning and I do so in the evening, even though I can still do a wrestler’s and gymnastic bridge.
Well, if I can still bridge, why do I bridge across the balls I mentioned?
I do so because sometimes I just want to stretch my body and wake it up – and I want to do so without engaging in a full-blown strenuous workout.
Por ejemplo, if I’m sitting around reading a book or studying something, and I’m beginning to feel a bit stiff, I can take 30-60 seconds to lean into a nice and easy bridge on the ball, and when I come out of it, I’m feeling loose, limber and ready to kick even more ass.
The looser you become with a little help from a ball, the closer you are to bridging the way you see in Combat Conditioning.
Kick ass – take names.
