I got the following question from Stanley today:
Thank you, Matt .
I will start now (doing Hindu pushups and squats), and I know how to do both.
How about going for a walk compared to jogging?
Which one is better?
Always a pleasure hearing from you.
Take care,
Stanley
Hi Stanley,
If you are reasonably fit and have no orthopedic issues, i.e. knees, hips, ankles, feet and lower back, you can do both.
Keep in mind, though, that backward training, as I teach in my Dao Zou product, is far superior in helping you rehabilitate and strengthen your body. The legendary boxer, Gene Tunney, trained in reverse, and Muhammad Ali did a lot of both forward and backward training. Smart, smart fighters.
You’ll have to work up to running in reverse. I wouldn’t begin doing it straight out of the shoot as it can be too much.
By the way, I don’t use the term “jogging.” I learned a long-time ago from Dan Gable, “Wrestlers don’t jog. We run and we sprint.”
Also, keep in mind that jumping rope is way better for you, in terms of results, than either walking or running. If jumping is currently too traumatic to your joints, you can use a rebounder. In fact, a rebounder is awesome regardless of how fit you are.
I am happy that you understood my message about starting slowly with Hindu squats and Hindu pushups. Again, avoid the idea that you don’t have time. Begin with one repetition of each per day. It may sound ridiculous, but getting started is at least half the battle. Once you get started, and you are doing something everyday, even a tiny amount, you activate the principle of momentum, and without pushing yourself, you’ll naturally begin doing more.
