Some years back I wrote about the uncanny power having a daily goal of doing one pushup.
Sounds ludicrous, doesn’t it? But you want to know something? It freakin’ works waaaaay beyond your imagined expectations.
One of many reasons it works is because the biggest fights most people have are mental battles, that are easily categorized as avoidance and procrastination, which ultimately lead to a defeated feeling of frustration.
There’s an old saying, “Beginning is half-done.”
And it’s truer than true. If you will just get started, half the mental battle is finished, and the next thing you know, you are off to the races.
Chances are indeed excellent that as you begin the labor of just doing one pushup, you cannot help but do more. It’s similar to saying you will only eat one potato chip, or have one spoonful of ice cream.
One of my clients does hundreds of pushups per day, yet he always begins with the low hanging fruit: one pushup.
The same holds true when going for a walk. Suppose you have given yourself a goal to walk five miles, but for some odd reason you cannot get your arse off the couch.
What to do?
Give yourself a smaller goal of only walking a block from your house.
Yes, you could turn around and walk back home and be done, but chances are greater than excellent that after one block, your mind/body will crave more.
Now, it just so happens that this “formula” works in every area of your life.
I used it last year to write a book (it will be available in August), that is over 100,000 words. I have also used it to continually improve my martial arts practice, my ability to speak a foreign language, et cetera.
And I have coached CEO’s, doctors, lawyers, athletes, as well as struggling students on the details (and there are many) of this method.
The results are mind-boggling, ground-breaking and glass ceiling smashing.
You don’t have to believe me. In fact, I prefer you don’t, so long as you are at least willing to test and experiment to see if what I am saying is true.
So get started today with your objective of proving me wrong. Focus on your ridiculous goal of only doing one pushup, or walking one block, and let me know where it leads.

P.S. I’m having a Goal-Getting™ Intensive on Wednesday, January 15, at 7 PM EST. It will be a two-hour presentation, followed by a QnA, that will forever change your life for the better. There is a fee involved, so if you’re not a “tire kicker” or someone who wants “something for nothing” ignore this message. But if you are interested in attending (only 11 seats remain), then email me: goals@psycho-cybernetics.com and I will get you the link to register.
